The Heart of a Volunteer
"There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer. With it beats the spirit of service, generosity and compassion...and the health and well-being of our community, our country and our world."
KOBI YAMADA
The Our Working Hands team of volunteers came together in the span of two years because of the vision of Pastor John and Beatrice Kabochi's vision for the women of the Deepsea village. Our work with the women's self help groups, children's feeding programs and local community projects has helped develop ways to create and generate sustainable income that clothes, feed and educate the women and their families. We meet monthly to plan and develop programs and projects that we can share with the groups to encourage community participation in local business, as well as global business.
The volunteer spirit is not just here in the USA. We have found that beautiful spirit in the people of Kenya for each other and when they greet us as visitors.

Betty Mayer and Janice Hare volunteered to clean a chicken coop and rebuild some of it on a recent trip to Kenya. They now have happy chickens. Thanks to our "Chicken for Dummies" team!
Team Zebra
Each one of the October 2011 "Purpose Full Tour" travelers volunteered to host a holiday event or home show to help sell the Women's Groups beautiful baskets and other crafts. They have continued to volunteer in so many ways to make a difference in the lives of the Kenyans they met.
Thank you all for such commitment.
Note: The Zebra became a intricate part of our groups identity. Pastor John shared with us the significance of the Zebra to us as friends. "You see," he said, "We are black and you are white but we are of one blood in Christ. We are Zebra!" Thus Team Zebra.
A note of appreciation
"I have certainly had the privilege of working with some remarkable people who have volunteered their hearts, their time, in many cases their homes and their financial blessings to make a difference for the lives of our Kenyan friends and here in the US. I cannot begin to tell you what I have learned from each one of them. However, I can tell you this, being in their presence and working alongside them as we join "our working hands" together across the world has certainly made me a better human being and drawn me closer to our Creator who brought us together a few years ago. Thank you all for your patience, love, understanding and hearts for this work.
